London Day 2- Shakespeare, the Sky, and Street Performers
After the Sky Garden, we headed to lunch at Tortilla, a British fast food chain It was a quick turnaround, and afterwards hurried to a Starbucks near the British Museum for a quick break. The British Museum was amazing, even though we only had a short time to explore. We saw tons of important historical artifacts, all of which were beautiful, and most of which were stolen. We saw the Rosetta Stone, Cleopatra, and an original Moai (Easter Island Head)!
After the British Museum, we had a guided tour at the Globe Theater. This version of the Globe has an especially interesting story behind it. Despite looking like a medieval building, perched on the bank of the Thames, it was actually built in the mid 1990's. It's the third rendition of the theater, created by prolific filmmaker and architect Theo Crosby. It was super interesting to see the theater where Shakespeare's plays were originally performed, even if it isn't an exact recreation.
After our tour of the Globe, some people in our group were feeling hungry, so we decided to have an early dinner. Outside of the Underground, we encountered a street performer playing a tuba, which isn't that out of the ordinary. However, this tuba was a special tuba. This tuba shot fire. It was pretty awesome, just like the food we had at Strata. My group decided to go today, because we heard such good reviews from our group. It was amazing. Afterwards we got gelato, and even though it was raining, it was a great way to end our first full day in London. On the tube ride back, we encountered another, equally amazing performer, this time playing the keys in a full Spiderman costume. It was incredible, and I think was a definitively London experience.
